Job Vacancy - Human-Orangutan Conflict Response Team Coordinator

Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia (Yayasan IAR Indonesia/YIARI) is a non-profit organization with a focus on the rescue, rehabilitation and conservation of wildlife. Yayasan IAR Indonesia rescues and rehabilitates orangutans, macaques and slow lorises with the aim to prepare these animals for release back into their natural habitat. Yayasan IAR Indonesia also engages in education and awareness programmes that convey messages to the public to treat all animals with compassion and care.

Yayasan IAR Indonesia is urgently looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and qualified individual to fill a vacant position as Human-Orangutan Conflict Response Team (HOCRT) Coordinator. The selected candidate will be based at our office in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.

General requirements:
  • Male/female;
  • University degree in relevant discipline (biology, forestry or equivalent), with a minimum 1 year experience in Social Economic Surveys. Advanced degree may be preferred;
  • Proficient computer skill in various MS Office applications (excel, word, powerpoint, outlook);
  • Proficient with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS);
  • Working knowledge of ArcGis and Remote Sensing;
  • Working knowledge of Human-Wildlife Conflict (more specifically Human-Orangutan Conflict-HOC), orangutan behaviour and ecology;
  • Proven ability to write a report with good quality outputs and deliver it on time;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Able to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Ability to communicate and write in Bahasa Indonesia and English;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving abilities;
  • Willingness to work in the field for 23 days/month.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Programme Manager in providing necessary advices/inputs and information concerning the HOCRT project;
  • Provide assistance and work together with Programme Manager in developing and/or modifying the Social Economic Questionnaire, HOC Standard Operation Procedures and Best Management Practices for Oil Palm Companies;
  • Provide support and work together with the HOCRT staff to conduct field social economic surveys and disseminate information;
  • Analyse these data in SPSS and also ArcGis;
  • Help develop and update a HOC geographic database;
  • Provide support and work together with other local NGOs in developing and delivering an education and awareness programme;
  • Give presentations based on findings regarding the HOCRT activities; and
  • Provide support in preparing and implementing a capacity development of other YIAR staff.
